Brisbane Runs

A big week on and off the track.

Coffee dates, event meetings with coffee and early morning flights with lots of coffee.

Wednesday we headed to Brisbane to catch up with the lovely people at the Stillbirth Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) to chat about what they are currently working on, the positives they have learnt and what the future looks like for them, with federal funding ceasing in 2025. We also chatted with midwives whom are working in perinatal loss care and how important it is to have a program in place to care for bereaved parents straight after loss and we heard the positive outcomes of such a program from a mum who lost her little one suddenly post 35 weeks.

It is always an extremely exhausting time for me mentally, especially when I hear the stories from bereaved parents. It brings on a range of emotions for me, very mixed, as I realise our post care when we lost Celeste was not great. When I hear stories of mums being passed their baby to hold, I feel lost as to why this did not happen for me.

I woke Saturday morning pretty flat and was looking forward to getting back to Adelaide later that day. However it was not all work, we did catch up with friends for lunch Thursday and Friday night with my nephew which was lovely as it had been a while for both.

Saturday we landed, I headed straight out for my programmed run and then we enjoyed celebrating a lovely friends 21st birthday… although I had to duck away early due to Sunday’s 2.5hr programmed run.

Next week there is a lot happening with Celeste’s 23rd birthday on Friday, always a tricky day on the calendar. We have organised a fundraising birthday party so hopefully she will be watching over that, knowing that she is making an impact down here.

Thanks for reading x
